If I have a GP elsewhere in the UK, is it still worth me registering with a local GP to
the university halls?

Yes. We would recommend that you register with a GP local to your university halls.
Most students spend more weeks of the year at their college address than at their family’s address, and
access to a local GP will ensure that you can easily access healthcare when you need it. This can be
particularly important for acute illnesses or if you have an ongoing health condition, particularly one that
requires medication.

If I have private insurance, should I still register with the GP?

Yes. You can still have access to the full range of services offered by an NHS GP surgery. Furthermore, many health insurance companies actually require a GP referral in order for you to receive care from a specialist.

What address do I put as my home address on the form?

Please fill in the details of your halls of residence in this section. If you only have an international
telephone number, put that on the form for now, and you can update the practice with any new phone
numbers when you get them.
